The information provided on this site is based on a research study prepared by New South Associates Inc., and funded by the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) and the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA). The study’s objective was to provide an Atlanta-based historical context of streetcar transportation development, identify historic resources associated with streetcar systems, and offer tools to preservation professionals for evaluation of National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) eligibility. A copy of the study, which includes brief histories of other streetcar systems in Georgia, is available to the public on the GDOT website.
